Return to About Us

At Cauldholm Bed and Breakfast we endeavour to ensure that our impact on the environment is as low as possible.

We have 18 photovoltaic solar panels to produce our own green electricity, and we make sure our washing machine and dishwasher are used during daylight hours to take full advantage of this green energy source.

The farm house is heated in part by carbon neutral wood-burning stoves using locally supplied wood.

The resident chickens, Henrietta and Chick Pea, run free range around the courtyard and garden and provide delicious eggs for our guests every morning. Recently joining the girls are Milly, Molly and Mandy - three rescued battery hens on their road to recovery.

Other examples of our green values:

Increased insulation in the farmhouse loft
Radiators are fitted with thermostatic valves to enable room by room temperature control
All bed linen and towels are dried outside on a rotary drier or indoors on an evening from the heat of the wood stoves
Local tradespeople and companies are used for property maintenance
Energy efficient light bulbs are used where possible
We grow a selection of our own fruit and vegetables
Most of our breakfast ingredients are sourced locally
Rain water is collected in water butts for garden watering
We recycle or compost nearly everything
We use and promote Freecycle and Freegle
